Colorful hair and big googly eyes – these are some typical features of a manga character. But where do these features come from? We’ll take a look at the Art Nouveau paintings in the Bröhan-Museum and you’ll be surprised by the similarity. The formal language of this style with its flowing robes and intricate ornaments has influenced modern manga. In the workshop, you will then design your own manga characters, whether hero or heroine, samurai or elf – with the right tips and tricks, they too will become typical manga characters.

Friendship Bands – Creative Jewelry Workshop
With your best friends you share everything – memories, nice moments and goodies. Do you also go through thick and thin? Homemade friendship bands indicate a common bond and are a special gift. Inspired by the art of Art Nouveau in the Bröhan-Museum, with a little patience, dexterity and imagination you can create unique jewelry from various materials to give away or keep for yourself. Other trendy jewelry ideas and techniques can also be learned. Let yourself be inspired!

Dancing shapes – printing with your own stamps
Curved lines, symmetrical ornamentation, playful inlays – whether on pictures, vases or furniture: the Bröhan-Museum is home to numerous ornaments and patterns from the Art Nouveau period. All that can be discovered in an interactive tour. At the same time, background knowledge about the artistic movement at the beginning of the 20th century is imparted in a playful way.
In the workroom, the patterns and shapes inspire visitors to come up with their own creative ideas: floral, abstract or perhaps something with letters. The most beautiful sketches can be carved into erasers using linocut tools. This technique can be used to stamp beautiful greeting cards, transparent papers e.g. for tea light shades, exercise books or other paper objects. Previous experience is not required.
