Current InformationDora Hitz. Fighting with the old for the new
Exhibition at the Liebermann-Villa am Wannsee in cooperation with the Bröhan Museum and the Institute for Art and Visual History at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
Duration: October 19, 2024 to January 20, 2025
As a representative of modern art, Dora Hitz (1853-1924) played a decisive role in shaping the art scene in Berlin at the turn of the century. She was part of the avant-garde art scene and, together with three other female painters, a founding member of the Berlin Secession. Her works were represented at the most important exhibitions in Germany and she was well connected throughout Europe. Despite this, she fell into oblivion after her death. On November 20, 2024, the 100th anniversary of her death, her first posthumous exhibition will be on display.
In 2022, Rahel Schrohe, who provided the ideas for her dissertation research on Dora Hitz, was featured in our exhibition “Ansehen! Art and Design by Women 1880-1940” by our collection curator Dr. Sabine Meister, the video can be seen here on the Bröhan Museum’s YouTube channel.
