Andreas Feininger is considered one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century. Born in Paris in 1906 as the eldest son of the famous painter Lyonel Feininger, he belongs to a generation of artists who discovered photography as an artistic medium in the years following the First World War and developed a new visual approach to photography. Clarity, simplicity and organization are the fundamental principles of his work. Like few others, he is able to combine the content of his pictures with strictly formal criteria, such as perspective and composition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The architecture and life in New York, his chosen home, has fascinated him over the decades. Again and again he captured the Manhattan skyline, the urban canyons, the skyscrapers, the bridges and the elevated railways in densely atmospheric images. Today, his views of the megacity rank among the classics of the history of photography. The exhibition at the Br\u00f6han Museum features over 90 black-and-white photographs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition is a collaboration with the Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen and is part of the EMOP Berlin – European Month of Photography www.emop-berlin.eu<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
