Hannah H\u00f6ch (1889\u20131978) went down in history as a Dada icon. Above all, she is known for her photo collages critically examining the political and social environment. Yet her work also reveals the autonomous artistic statement of an extraordinary personality. With over 120 works \u2013 some of which have not been shown for a long time or ever before \u2013 representing all creative areas and periods, this exhibition illuminates the entire spectrum of an oeuvre that is as versatile as it is contradictory. The works on loan come from prominent international and national museums, institutions, and private collections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
H\u00f6ch took the liberty of switching between artistic styles across all ideological divides, each time according to the subject matter at hand. This not only means that in H\u00f6ch’s work one finds poster designs as well as paintings; she also combines fine art and applied art in in some of her pieces. In the exhibition, the works appear side by side on an equal footing, fully in keeping with the intention of their creator. Enabling \u201cmillions and millions of views\u201d \u2013 as H\u00f6ch put it in a poem \u2013 was the aim of her art. She achieved an unequaled artistic freedom and variety. The show seeks to address, for the first time, precisely this aspect of H\u00f6ch’s work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In three hours, participants get to know the artist Hannah H\u00f6ch, focusing on her works on paper. Together with the artist Nadia Linek different collage techniques can be explored. Using magazines, colored paper, wallpaper and other materials, new visual worlds are created.
